Such a nostalgic feeling when you enter. I love that everything is the same as it was when my parents brought me here as a kid. Food is priced well, and delicious considering how busy they can be! I would say their onion rings are a staple (featured in the Sopranos) and their delicious ice cream. Come here for a meal that'll hit the spot and/or savory dessert. Also, try their candy. It's homemade and around Easter they have marshmallow filled chocolate eggs that are to DIE for.

You can ask them to make you any kind of combination of ice cream and they will do it. The milkshakes came out amazing (only $7 each). The servers were amazing and super friendly. They also sell merchandise if you are interested in a hat or shirt or cup. The place is a very old school vibe especially since it's where the last episode of sopranos were shot.

Holsten's was a place on NJ.com's list of Best Ice Cream Shops so OF COURSE I went. Super unassuming from the outside. I almost thought they weren't even open because the shades were drawn. But as soon as I stepped in, the place was buzzing like it was lunch time in midtown Manhattan on a pay day! It's not only an ice cream shop but a luncheonette also! With homemade chocolate by the pound too!!! They've got two guys cooking and a whole gang of employees that do everything else. They not only serve tables but they also scoop ice cream, run the food, bus tables, get to-go orders, etc. So they run the back of the house AND the front! They share tips and they all pull their weight. VERY impressive!! REALLY impressive!! Their homemade ice cream selections were the classics. No unique concoctions that grabbed your attention but they do the classics right. I got the Maple Walnut. I was happy with the huge chunks of walnuts and the quantity of them. The serving was humongous but I'm not complaining. Oooo also, they shot the last scene of "The Sopranos" here. Just one more thing to be impressed about with this place. Only ONE gripe. Just ONE. Parking is a bitch and circling around takes longer than a circle around. Grab the first spot you see even if it IS 3 blocks away! It's worth it!

This is not by design like one of the newer established 50's chains like Johnny Rockets or Smash Burger, but because it has always been that way, it is the Real Deal in every respect. The prices are also remarkably cheap, and while there only are about a dozen or so varieties of ice cream, all of them are made in-house and are very fresh. PS: This fine establishment happened to be the spot in which The Sopranos' series finale was filmed. Epic moment in TV history. Cheers

This was my second visit to Holsten's, and once again, it didn't disappoint. I ordered from their special menu and got the vanilla peanut butter cup ice cream, which tasted amazing. You have the option to dine in or take your items to-go. However, the ordering area can get quite crowded and could benefit from better organization. It's a bit annoying trying to figure out who has already placed an order, and it feels awkward to convey your order while standing directly behind people enjoying their treats at the sit-in counter. Despite this, Holsten's is still a solid ice cream shop.

Holsten's, famous for its delicious homemade ice cream and being in The Sopranos, has been serving the community since 1939. My cheeseburger deluxe was perfectly cooked to order with a great flame broiled flavor. Equally as good were the slightly crunchy krinkle fries. A typical luncheonette style menu offering a nice variety of sandwiches and burgers. The homemade mint chip ice cream was creamy and minty. Homemade whipped cream topped it off. On this first time visit to this iconic luncheonette, I sat at the counter and had one of the best service experiences one can have. Julia was attentive, engaging, pleasant, sweet and polite. It was a true service with a smile type visit. She provided an outstanding service experience. When you cross the threshold of Holsten's Ice Cream Parlor, you might feel as though you stumbled upon a time machine that whisked you back to the 1950s. Old wooden and Glass candy display cases, cozy red vinyl booths, and ice cream counter complete with old-fashioned barstools, Holsten's magically transports you to the quaint and convivial atmosphere of an era long forgotten. It's like taking a step back in time. This is a must visit for not only Soprano fans but for EVERYONE! Just a short 5 minute ride off the GSP exit 151
